Young children have always been fascinated with animals. This homeschool Catechism lesson will surely delight both you and your children.

Read-A-Louds

Again, start with an engaging story. If you have a children’s Bible at home, snuggle up and read the story of Noah’s Ark. Our favorite when our son was a toddler was the Jesus Storybook bible. I have a read-a-loud over at my YT channel.

If you are still searching for the best children’s bible for your children, Catholic Icing has the perfect list.

Our favorites are:

The Jesus Story Book Bible

Tomie dePaola's Book of Bible Stories Hardcover – Picture Book

The Action Bible: God's Redemptive Story (Action Bible Series)

Here are other read a loud videos of Noah’s Ark

Music and Movement

There are so many animal songs on Spotify for you and your child to sing and dance to. Making animal sounds and imitating their movements while moving to the beat will surely be fun. You may use YouTube videos for your music and movement activities also but I recommend that children just listen to the music rather than watch a video with music.

Music and movement can be done anytime of the day, whenever you feel like singing and dancing. When our son was little we used to have dance breaks during the day, and its usually the songs we sing and dances we dance that are related to the week's lesson.

Here is the playlist I use for my online Catechism class.

Listening Game

I played this listening game with my preschoolers in the classroom to improve on their auditory recognition skills. There is a short YT Video that I made for my online Catechism class. Check it our here.

Bird Watching

Step outside with your children to watch our little feathered friends. Your children will delight in watching and observing these cute creatures as you point out to them their movements and sounds. This gentle introduction to birdwatching will definitely pay off when your homeschool curriculum calls for bird study or biology.

You don't need any special equipment, really. Maybe just a few grains or bread to invite some birds to come near you. Little ones might be too excited and noisy and run about, but you can model and gently remind them that if they want to see these little friends up close, they have to try their best to be quiet ad keep still.

Arts and Crafts

You can find a few animal crafts here at Get Crafty With Teacher Weena or you may search for more in Pinterest and the web.

Coloring Pages and Other Activities

I also have coloring pages for Noah's Ark at my Free Printables Page

I hope this helps you and your family in your homeschool journey. Let me know how the lesson went in the comments. If you know a family who might need ideas and resources for teaching Catechism and homeschooling little ones, please share this blog post.

God bless you.
