Kindergarten Homeschool Catechism: Teaching “God Created the World” with Music, Movement & Story
Homeschooling children under six can feel overwhelming for many first-time parents—but it doesn’t have to be formal. Drawing inspiration from Charlotte Mason, this lesson invites you to slow down and cherish this peaceful early-learning stage. This versatile activity works well whether you have one child or several young ones learning together.

Lesson Breakdown
1. Read-Aloud: The Story of Creation
Start on the couch with your little one and read a child-friendly version of the Creation story. A favorite in our home has been The Jesus Storybook Bible—it’s engaging, beautifully illustrated, and perfect for young hearts.

2. Music & Movement
Bring the story to life with simple songs that narrate each day of creation. Move, dance, or make soft hand motions—whatever feels natural. This kinesthetic connection deepens understanding and enjoyment.
3. Catechism Discussion
Introduce a gentle catechism question like: “Who created the world?” Encourage the answer: “God created the world.” Use simple follow-ups: “What did God make?” (“The sun, moon, animals, plants…”) and “Who made those?” Your child’s answers may surprise you with their creativity and insight.
For another engaging conversation starter, see my lesson on God the Son, where children explore who Jesus is in their lives.
4. Explore, Art, and Play
Stimulate multiple senses with a hands-on activity: build a “creation collage” using colored paper cutouts or natural items like leaves and sticks. Or sketch each day of creation on one page. The key is to blend creativity with understanding.
5. Quiet Reflection & Prayer
End with a quiet moment where you share gratitude. Lead a short prayer like: “Thank you, God, for creating everything good. Amen.” It’s a simple way to close the lesson thoughtfully.
